A recipient of a 2010 New York Foundation Fellowship in Nonfiction Literature, he served on the selection panel for the 2017 NYFA Fellowships in the same category. Most recently he has traveled to Puerto Rico to report on the hardwood reforestation program at the rainforest preserve of Las Casas de la Selva, and the effects of Hurricane Maria on that work.
